Transition Programs Built Around Every Student
We recognize that every student learns differently, so our approach is highly personalized and built on genuine collaboration.
Our goal is to support each family while helping students develop the self-advocacy skills they need to thrive in high school and beyond.
From 7th Grade All the Way Through Postsecondary
A structured, multi-year roadmap so that no student or family ever faces a major transition alone.
Each fall, we gather all 7th and 8th-grade families for a group Transition Meeting. This session opens communication between families, teachers, and our Director of College Counseling & Transitions, setting the stage for a year of intentional preparation and support.
Following the fall meeting, our Director of College Counseling & Transitions meets individually with each family over the course of the school year. These sessions are tailored to the student's individual strengths, specific learning needs, and personal goals — covering both academic planning and personal development.
We invite all 7th and 8th graders to participate in cross-campus adventures throughout the year — from the annual excursion to Frost Valley YMCA Camp in Upstate New York to field trips, special events, and sports opportunities. These experiences help middle schoolers get acclimated to Craig High School in a natural, comfortable setting. 8th graders are additionally invited to join high school students for CPR/AED Training, museum trips, and art workshops.
Each spring, 7th and 8th-grade students participate in our College & Career Readiness elective. Students begin exploring their strengths and passions while building foundational skills in self-advocacy, time management, organization, study strategies, and independence. The course also introduces students to the support resources available on college campuses and in the workplace — so they are prepared long before they arrive.
College & Career Readiness Course
Each spring, 7th and 8th graders participate in our dedicated College & Career Readiness elective — a course designed to help students begin understanding themselves and the world they're preparing to enter.
